Wild boars, coming to a bookstore near you!

I'm happy to report that the Johns Hopkins University Press will be publishing my book Reading Herodotus: A Guided Tour through the Wild Boars, Dancing Suitors, and Crazy Tyrants of The History. It should be out in the fall of 2012. Stay tuned.

Authors & publishers:
I've decided to stop accepting review copies. The downside of getting buried in free books is that reading increasingly becomes an obligatory act. After some seven years of blogging books, it's time for me to return to the simple pleasure of reading only the books I want to read, when I want to read them. The blog, however, will continue, and if you've got a good first line to share for TwitterLit please do so here.

Book-blog's Best Reads of 2003

I started this blog in 2003, but didn't think of posting a best-reads-of-the-year list until this year. So, to remedy my incompleteness, I'm adding here, a year late, my best-reads-of-2003-after-I-started-the-blog list. I only read a few five-star books during the seven months in question.

Straight Man
by Richard Russo

The first book I reviewed at the book-blog, and arguably the reason I started the blog in the first place. Very funny. Exceedingly well written.

The DaVinci Code
by Dan Brown

Fast and fun.

The Slippery Slope
by Lemony Snicket

The tenth book in the elusive Mr. Snicket's wretched series.
