Wild boars, coming to a bookstore near you!

I'm happy to report that the Johns Hopkins University Press will be publishing my book Reading Herodotus: A Guided Tour through the Wild Boars, Dancing Suitors, and Crazy Tyrants of The History. It should be out in the fall of 2012. Stay tuned.

I've decided to stop accepting review copies. The downside of getting buried in free books is that reading increasingly becomes an obligatory act. After some seven years of blogging books, it's time for me to return to the simple pleasure of reading only the books I want to read, when I want to read them. The blog, however, will continue, and if you've got a good first line to share for TwitterLit please do so here.

Introducing the Sunday Salon: Come join us!

Recently a bunch of us participated in a 24-hour read-a-thon, hosted by Dewy at The Hidden Side of a Leaf. It was a big success, and it got Clare Dudman and me thinking that we would like to do something like that more often, on a smaller scale.

What we've come up with is The Sunday Salon, an informal, weekly, virtual literary salon. It's an excuse to set aside some time every week to read and blog about what you're reading, and to visit with other bloggers who are doing the same thing. Participation is open, as I write at the web site, to anyone with a blog and a stack of unread books. The participants' Sunday Salon posts will be collected in a single feed, so that you can easily keep up with what the other participants are reading and writing about. (There's also a widget available.)

Please visit the site for more information about how to get involved and how to subscribe.
